Honest Music Journal

Write for us

We welcome thoughtful contributions about listening, songcraft, instruments, recording and music history. A strong piece gives readers a specific way to hear or understand something, without assuming specialist knowledge.

What makes a good pitch

Send a brief proposal with a working title, the central question and the main points you would cover. Explain what a reader could notice, compare or understand by the end. A focused idea about one musical choice is more useful than a broad promise to cover music in general.

What to keep in mind

Use clear language, explain specialist terms and separate verifiable details from personal interpretation. Avoid claims that depend on access you cannot substantiate, and say where facts or quoted material come from. Do not send a complete unpublished article unless it has been requested.

How to send an idea

Proposals are sent through the Contact page. Choose the editorial question option and include your pitch in the message. Please do not include confidential material or assume that a submission has been accepted until there is an agreement.
